Grand Holland Tour
Rotterdam The Hague Delft Zaandam
Rotterdam
One of the world’s most significant port cities, is home to the largest harbor on the planet. Nearly entirely reconstructed after World War II, the city is celebrated for its bold, avant-garde architecture. In contrast, the historic Delfshaven neighborhood offers a window into the past, with its 17th-century buildings and charming canalside artisan shops. On this tour, you’ll explore Rotterdam’s striking blend of old and new: visit the iconic cubic houses, immerse yourself in the lively atmosphere of the modern Bazar, and cross the stunning Erasmus Bridge to reach the historic Holland America Line passenger terminal, a symbol of the city’s rich maritime history. The tour concludes with a visit to the Depot of Museum Boijmans van Beuningen, a striking architectural marvel and a new icon of modern Rotterdam, offering a perfect snapshot of the city’s cutting-edge cultural scene. This tour showcases the innovative and traditional sides of Rotterdam, capturing its unique spirit and dynamism.
The Hague
The Hague, the administrative capital of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, is home to many key institutions. You’ll visit the Dutch parliament, located within the medieval Gothic Binnenhof complex, as well as Noordeinde Palace, the 16th-century official workplace of the Dutch king.
Another highlight is the Peace Palace, home to the U.N.’s International Court of Justice, where we can take photos in front of this iconic symbol of global justice.
Additionally, The Hague is where you’ll find the Mauritshuis museum, housing masterpieces like Vermeer’s *Girl with a Pearl Earring*.
In case of bad weather, we can visit Panorama Mesdag, a captivating 360-degree painting of the Dutch coast. If you prefer, we can also arrange a lunch at the famous beach of Scheveningen, offering a relaxing seaside experience to complement your tour.
Delft
Delft is renowned for its iconic hand-painted blue and white pottery, known as Delftware.
This charming city boasts a beautifully preserved medieval old town with impressive historical landmarks, including the Old and New Churches. Stroll through the lively market square, once the seat of the Royal House of Orange, and learn about Delft’s royal connections, as the Old Church serves as the burial site for Dutch kings and queens.
We’ll take a relaxing break in one of Delft’s quaint historic cafés for coffee or tea, before continuing to the peaceful gardens of the Prinsenhof. Here, you’ll walk in the footsteps of William of Orange, the founder of the Netherlands, who was tragically assassinated at this very spot. This serene setting offers a perfect opportunity to enjoy traditional Dutch snacks and drinks while reflecting on the rich history of the Netherlands.
Zaandam
Visiting the Dutch windmills along the scenic Zaan River is one of the highlights of this tour, offering a step back in time to the origins of the country’s Golden Age and the Industrial Revolution.
The tour also includes a visit to a local cheese farm, where you’ll enjoy free tastings of a variety of traditional Dutch cheeses. We’ll then stop by a clog-making workshop, where you can witness the craft of wooden shoe carving, a practice that has been passed down through generations.
To round off this cultural journey, we’ll visit the historic first grocery store of Albert Heijn, now a charming museum, offering a glimpse into the humble beginnings of what has become the largest supermarket chain in the Netherlands. This tour offers an immersive experience into Dutch traditions, craftsmanship, and history, with something for everyone to enjoy.
